Summary

 

We have an opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Geology Student to join our Mine Geology team at Mt. Milligan, for a summer internship. Reporting to the Superintendent – Mine Geology, this role will provide valuable insight and practical experience in mine geology. The selected candidate will work closely with experienced geologists and technicians, contributing to various aspects of geological data collection, analysis, interpretation, ore control, and mine production.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with the Ore Control team to monitor ore quality and optimize production through geological analysis and interpretation.
  • Assist in sampling blast holes using proper methodologies and attentiveness to sample integrity.
  • Assist with RC drilling campaigns by helping with sample preparation and logging rock chips.
  • Work closely with mine production teams to provide geological support and guidance for efficient ore extraction and development.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date geological records and documentation related to mine production activities.
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Student role as required or as assigned by the department head.

 

Education, Experience & Skills

 

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program at a Canadian post secondary institution in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong academic background in geology, with coursework in structural and ore deposit geology preferred.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Must be physically fit with ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License
  • Must have work authorization to work in Canada.

 

Working Conditions

 

  • The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14x14 rotation, 12 hours per day
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James, Mackenzie and Smithers.
