Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent, Metallurgy, the Metallurgist’s key objective is to provide technical support and guidance to the mill operations group.

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure that all employees work safely and in accordance with applicable legislation, company policy, standards, and procedures
  • Monitor and report on plant performance, identify sources of variability and make recommendations for improvements to increase stability and efficiency
  • Conduct investigations, test work, and technical projects to maintain performance and identify opportunities to exceed targets
  • Maintain quality control programs within the plant and onsite laboratory
  • Lead/participate in equipment inspections and making recommendations on service life

Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mineral Processing or Metallurgy
  • Registered member, or qualified to register, with EGBC
  • 2-3 years of experience preferred in mineral processing, preferably with comminution and copper and gold flotation experience
  • Strong statistical analysis, presentation, and technical report writing skills
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Industrial experience and a demonstrated ability to work safely
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office suite and basic programming
  • Strong communication, organizational, and team building skills
  • Integrity, focus, and a good work ethic
  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems, prioritize issues, and develop timely and cost-effective solutions
  • Valid Canadian Driving License.

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14 x 14 work schedule, 12 hours per day.
  • The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James, Mackenzie and Smithers. Employees accessing the site from outside the region are eligible to receive a tax-free travel allowance commensurate with the distance they are required to travel.
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
  • Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
