Summary

 

The Paramedic is the sites healthcare professional responsible for providing pre-hospital assessment and medical care to people with acute illness or injures. This position also plays a critical role in the site emergency preparedness and response plan and will work very closely with the mine site emergency response coordinator and mine rescue members. This is a fixed-term position.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and maintain the first aid services plan on site for Mount Milligan
  • Maintain the onsite medical facility, its equipment, and inventories to industry standards.
  • This includes cleaning, decontaminating, and inspecting emergency vehicles and equipment to maintain a constant state of emergency preparedness
  • Provide routine medical care and advanced life support services to the mine site
  • Respond to emergency calls for medical assistance at accidents and emergencies
  • On call during the night for emergencies
  • Assure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Administer drug and alcohol screening as per company policy
  • Provide monthly reports and statistics concerning site injuries and incidents
  • Perform industrial hygiene sampling program including medical surveillance testing
  • Participate with Emergency Response Team and emergency response drills
  • Liaising with members of emergency services, such as the police, coroner, Mine Rescue personnel, and other ambulance services to ensure the appropriate level of response
  • Manning an ambulance or other rapid response vehicle
  • Preparing and reporting the patient's history, condition, and treatment to relevant hospital staff
  • Other Health and Safety duties as required

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Primary Care Paramedic licensed in British Columbia plus a minimum of 4 years experience in heavy industry
  • Occupational First Aid level III or equivalent.
  • Class 4 Drivers License in British Columbia
  • CPR-C Certificate
  • Drug and alcohol collection training would be an asset

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
  • Set work schedule of 7x7 rotation, Wednesday to Tuesday, 12 hours per day,
  • This is a Fixed Term role. Expected Start date of April 28, 2024, approximate end date of September 24, 2024.
  • Work consists of a high degree of social interaction with employees in person
  • Regular exposure to multiple priorities requiring scheduling changes and uncertainty in the work organization,
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Fort St. James and Mackenzie.
