Summary
Reporting to the Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor, the Industrial Mill Electrician will be responsible for various maintenance activities common to a surface hard rock mining and milling operation as well as the associated crushing, grinding, floatation, conveyor systems and support equipment.
Responsibilities
- Regular Maintenance of Mill Grinding equipment. Troubleshoot, repair and test high voltage cables.
- Read electrical prints and schematics and safely troubleshoot electrical circuits.
- Model, comply and implement with electrical safety rules and related industry regulations.
- Maintain service vehicles, tools and equipment ensuring all are in good working order.
- Strong commitment and adherence to Safety policies, procedures, and electrical codes and standards Prepare comprehensive reports detailing issues identified and work performed.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Installs, maintains, and repairs panels, switches, motors, controls, power output, solenoids, voltage controls, high and low cut-out alarms, relays, and other electrical apparatus.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs control circuits, pressure switches, floats, underground cables, circuit breakers, medium and low voltage switch gear, capacitors, conductors, insulators, heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and various lighting applications.
- Actively participate in safety activities.
- Perform Preventative Maintenance inspections. Repair equipment in the field and shop atmosphere.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Clearly document reports detailing work performed and problems found.
Education & Experience
- Must have a Red Seal Industrial Electrician’s Certification
- Experience working in a Mill Grinding environment.
- 3+ years’ experience in mining or industrial environment Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code
- Must have own tools – tool allowance provided.
- Proven safety and attendance record.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel etc. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Physically capable of lifting to 50 pounds is required. Willingness to work in adverse conditions.
- Self-motivated and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions
- Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 7x7 work schedule, 12 hours per day.
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration.
- Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site.
- Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Fort St. James and Mackenzie.
