DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the operational integrity of the Mining department as required; in order to achieve safety, environmental, quality, costs, production and continuous improvement targets.
  • Operate various types of heavy machinery in an open pit mine i.e. Haul trucks (CAT 777, 789, 793) Dozers (CAT D8, D10) Excavators (CAT 329, 349, 390) and Graders (CAT 14m, 16M, 24M)
  • Perform pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections and complete daily equipment reports
  • Report unsafe mechanical conditions to shop foreman and supervisor
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices on equipment
  • Follow established traffic patterns avoiding road hazards and other hazardous conditions
  • Actively participate in set policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives. 

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • 3 or more years experience as a heavy equipment operator running Haul trucks (CAT 777, 789 & 793) Dozers (CAT D8 & D10) Excavators (CAT 329, 349 & 390) and Graders (CAT 14m, 16M & 24M)
  • Attention and compliance to established safety rules and guidelines is paramount.
  • Experience in an open pit mining environment
  • Collaborative work style – willing to participate in solving problems.
  • Positive outlook with good interpersonal skills.
  • A record of excellent attendance.
  • Ability to stay alert and pay attention to detail during all hours and weather conditions encountered during a shift.
  • Ability to safely climb and access equipment, as well as lift heavy objects up to 50lbs  
  • Strong leadership/team skills and the ability to work independently as required
  • Valid BC Drivers License required 

WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS

  • The schedule will be rotating days and nights, 7 days on with 7 days’ rest, 12-hour shifts
  • This is a camp based position, with bus transportation provided from Prince George, Mackenzie and Fort St James. 
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times  
  • Preference will be given to candidates in the local area.
