GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUMMARY

 

The Financial Planning Analyst will be responsible for presenting a comprehensive picture of the financial and operational performance of the Company and assume the lead role in the budgeting and forecasting process.

 

REPORTING STRUCTURE

•             This position reports to the Manager, Financial Reporting.

•             There are no direct reports to this position.

•             This position manages a process which requires the inputs from the subsidiaries accounting
              team for the purpose of financial analysis, budgeting/forecasting and operational reporting.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The main responsibilities captured in this role can be grouped in two major areas:

(1) Financial Analysis (2) Budget and Forecast

 

Financial Analyst (responsible to the Manager, Financial Reporting for following duties):

•             Perform complex analyses of financial and/or statistical data and prepare reports for
              management;

•             Analyze and aggregate site production reports on a monthly basis;

•             Contribute strongly to the department’s in-house financial mining expertise;

•             Assume a lead role in the implementation of new operational reporting processes;

•             Assist in the preparation of the MD&A;

•             Assist in the preparation of presentations for the executive team;

•             Assist with ad-hoc projects as required.

 

Budget and forecast (responsible to the Manager, Financial Reporting for following duties):

•             Take the lead role in the company-wide annual budget and quarterly forecasting process;

•             Assume the administrative duties for the Hyperion budgeting software;

•             Review budget/forecast submissions from the sites; make sense of the numbers; able to explain
              results to the senior management team, including setting of company’s external guidance.

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

 

•             Comprehensive understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);

•             Proficient knowledge of Microsoft products – including Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

•             Experience with Oracle/Hyperion would be an asset

•             Develop constructive relationships in order to work with other departments, including those in
              foreign operations;

•             Must be organized, detail oriented and a willingness to work to a flexible schedule;

•             Some travel will be required.

 

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

 

•             A professional accounting designation is required (CPA, CA or equivalent);

•             High level proficiency in written and oral English

•             Minimum 5 years post-designation experience, including experience with a mining company;

•             Budgeting experience;

•             Demonstrated skill and ease in presenting to senior management.  Strong business acumen.

 

RELATIONSHIPS

 

Internal:

  •         Regular interface with executive management, management and functional staff at the corporate office and with staff (accounting and operations group) at the subsidiaries and joint ventures

 

External:

•             External financial and tax auditors

•             SOX consultants

 

DIMENSIONS

The incumbent prepares the yearly budget and quarterly forecast; as well as regular financial analysis plus operational reports for the executive team. The incumbent also assists with preparation of the MD&A and other ad-hoc projects.
