The Project Director is accountable for all aspects of management of the surface and underground development and construction and site services activities associated with the Kemess Underground Project, reporting to the Vice President Projects & Technical Services.  This is a site-based position with regular travel expected to Vancouver and Toronto as required.

 

Kemess is located in north-central British Columbia approximately 250 km north of Smithers and 430 km northwest of Prince George. The successful candidate is expected to reside in Prince George.

 

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Activities related to development and construction of the Kemess Underground Project for both surface and underground project components;
  • Site services activities and its development through construction and into operations phase;
  • Mine optimization studies, with focus on schedule and cost minimization;
  • Detailed engineering of mine development-construction activities;
  • Detailed engineering of surface facilities including conveyor system and process plant;
  • Tendering process for all development and construction contracts;
  • Coordination of vendors, contractors and sub-contractors;
  • Develop and sustain effective relationships and efficiencies of all vendors and contractors;
  • Build owner mining team and further develop existing project and site services teams
  • Ensure that personnel are suitably developed and undergo appropriate training and assessment with a focus on safety;
  • Environmental policies and ensure compliance to all legislative and permitting requirements;
  • Engage with First Nations and manage relationships;
  • Community relations and maintenance of effective contact with local authorities;
  • Development of annual budget and life-of-mine plans;
  • Managing and controlling expenses;
  • Manage provision of services by Centerra’s Prince George shared services group.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 20 years of experience in the mining industry with progressively increasing responsibility;
  • Extensive mine development-construction management experience, including development of owner development team;
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders including First Nations, regulators, contractors and consultants;
  • Operations experience at large-scale underground mining operations.
