Summary
Reporting to the Superintendent, Geology, the Mine Geologist will be responsible for administering ML/ARD and Ore and Waste Rock Management programs and assist the geology department with ongoing production geology support and services.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to the Mine Operations, Engineering and Exploration teams for Ore Delineation and Waste Material Management.
- Responsible for managing ML/ARD and Ore & Waste Rock Management programs as directed by the Geology Superintendent.
- Assist the geology department with technical support of ore control procedures, pit wall structural mapping, geological input/interpretation for short term model improvements and departmental continuous improvement.
- Investigate improved techniques for ore delineation and recovery.
- Assist with In-pit drilling programs as directed by the Senior Mine Geologist.
- Geology related operation support to multiple mine site disciplines and the mine planning group.
- Actively support and participate in the site safety and health initiatives.
Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelors degree in Geology or Earth Sciences
- Registered or eligible to register as a P.Geo with EGBC.
- Three or more years’ experience in an open pit ore control position or similar role.
- Knowledge of Alkalic Porphyry deposits.
- An unwavering commitment to workplace safety.
- Sound level of computer literacy, and ability to integrate multiple software packages.
- Previous exposure with geological databases and mining software, HxGn MinePlan is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional attitude, teamwork-oriented collaboration and problem-solving skills in a respectful and safety-oriented environment, good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Working Conditions
- This position is based at the mine site where camp accommodations will be provided. The work rotation is fourteen (14) days on and fourteen (14) days off, working twelve (12) hour shifts.
- The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
- Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Fort St. James and Mackenzie. Employees accessing the site from outside the region are eligible to receive a tax-free travel allowance commensurate with the distance they are required to travel.
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
- Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
