Summary

 

The Superintendent, Metallurgy & Assay Lab will report to the Mill Operations Manager and will be responsible to lead the Metallurgy and Assay Lab teams while providing technical support to the Mill Operations team.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Direct supervision of Senior Metallurgists and Assay Lab Supervisors.
  • Ensure all employees work safely in accordance with applicable legislation, company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Prioritize metallurgical work to meet departmental goals, mill KPIs, project milestones, and deadlines.
  • Monitor and report on plant performance, identify sources of variability and make recommendations for improvements to increase stability and efficiency.
  • Support metallurgical investigations, test work, and technical projects to maintain performance and identify opportunities to exceed targets.
  • Support assay lab personnel through QAQC monitoring, recommendations, and spreadsheet provisions.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts by supporting project leads on complex technical projects and guide Metallurgists in support of these projects.
  • Oversee mill equipment inspections and ensure safety of the team while performing inspections.
  • Support Mill Operations and provide technical recommendations.
  • Approve schedule changes and vacation for direct reports and indirect reports.
  • Aid in hiring for Metallurgy team and Assay Lab.
  • Advanced proficiency in utilizing various management tools and systems essential for operations, such as SAP, PI Processbook, TapRooT, MOC (Management of Change), etc.

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Materials, or Chemical) or equivalent
  • 10+ years minimum progressive experience culminating in leadership level position.
  • Registered member, or qualified to register, with EGBC
  • Experience and competency in mineral processing, specifically with comminution and copper/gold flotation experience
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

  • Strong statistical analysis, presentation, and technical report writing skills
  • Industrial experience and a demonstrated ability to work safely and be a safety champion
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office suite and basic programming
  • Strong communication, organizational, and team building skills
  • Integrity, focus, and a good work ethic
  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems, prioritize issues, and develop timely and cost-effective solutions
  • Proven team leading skills
  • Ability to influence, supervise, coach, and lead a team of professionals
  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License

 

Working Conditions

 

  • The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 7x7 rotation, 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
