Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent, Projects & Infrastructure the incumbent is responsible for electrical engineering scope within projects and infrastructure department. The ideal candidate would have experience in electrical design, project management and mining.  Also bringing a deep understanding of innovation and industry-leading best practices, along with an established reputation for operating within a culture committed to safety, environmentally sustainable operations, and to operating in a socially responsible manner.

Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of electrical designs and design standards across various projects
  • Provide electrical technical support within the departments, external consultants and contractors as required
  • Manage small multidisciplinary projects from conceptual to detailed engineering while supporting construction and commissioning as required
  • Prepare equipment specifications and tender documents for procurement of equipment including expediting orders to facilitate installation and construction
  • Reporting on a regular basis, technical report preparation, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education & Experience

  • Registration with EGBC as an EIT or P. Eng is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as, the Canadian Electrical Code, the Mines Act, and CSA M421, Use of Electricity in Mines.
  • Well-rounded and proven experience as an electrical generalist engineer in an industrial setting.
  • Strong technical knowledge about various areas of electrical engineering such as, electrical distribution, grounding, lighting, instrumentation, automation, motor control, etc.
  • Experience with power system studies including load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, protection device coordination, and arc flash analysis.
  • Experience with management of external electrical contractors and engineering consultants.
  • A university degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Previous experience working in the mining industry in a project management or engineering role.
  • Previous experience working for an engineering firm.
  • PMP Certification is an asset.
  • Collaborate with clients and coworkers, create, and build strong client and team relationships

Working Conditions

  • This position is based at the Mine site where camp accommodations will be provided. The work rotation is either fourteen (14) days on and fourteen (14) days off or seven (7) days on and seven (7) days off, working twelve (12) hour shifts.
  • The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. Employees accessing the site from outside the region are eligible to receive a tax-free travel allowance commensurate with the distance they are required to travel.
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
  • Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
