Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor, Environment, the Advisor, Environment will provide departmental and technical leadership to support our Environmental Monitoring Plan and Compliance Reporting.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the Environmental Database using the Microsoft Suite (e.g. Excel, outlook) software package MonitorPro 5 (MP5);
- Communicate with external labs to ensure samples are analyzed on time, sample supplies are being shipped on time and troubleshoot any QA/QC issues that arise.
- Analyze water chemistry trends from the regional watersheds and Mount Milligan Mine sub watersheds
- Compare environmental data against permit criteria advising of any issues and prepare and present regular reports to the Environmental Superintendent or designate
- Maintain the legal compliance register in MP5 including but not limited to permit and authorization conditions, Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMP) requirements, etc.
- Maintain the environmental inspection database including tracking inspection action items raised and following up with the Environmental Supervisors, Coordinator and Superintendent on upcoming and overdue action items
- Act as a backup field team member to support collecting samples and monitoring data outlined by environmental permits, regulations and systems in accordance
- Perform tasks set out in the Environmental Management Plan such as providing new hire orientations, attending toolbox meetings to present awareness topics and completing inspections of work sites to identify potential impacts.
- Assist in developing assessment and monitoring reports for compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
- Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., Environmental management Act, Mines Act, HSRC, Fisheries Act, MDMER)
Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, Environmental Science or a related Natural Resources Management field or Environmental Engineering.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience, preferably in a mining environment with experience in environmental monitoring databases, software and compliance programs
- Strong technical writing and data analysis skills
- Familiarity with Single Window Information Manager (SWIM) and BC Environmental Monitoring System (EMS) will be an asset
Working Conditions
- This position is based at the mine site where camp accommodations will be provided. The work rotation is fourteen (14) days on and fourteen (14) days off, working twelve (12) hour shifts.
- The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
- Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James, Mackenzie and Smithers. Employees accessing the site from outside the region are eligible to receive a tax-free travel allowance commensurate with the distance they are required to travel.
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
- Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
