Summary

 

The Senior Mine Engineer - Long Term Planning, will lead and coordinate reliable, consistent, and timely designs and schedules for long range planning for Mount Milligan Mine. They will develop accurate mine plans for operations, maintenance, mill, contractors, projects, finance and HSE.

Report and communicate progress and participate in various mine projects and business improvement initiatives. Provide technical expertise, support, coaching and training to the mine engineers and technicians. Manage mining consultants and other related stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and oversee the technical production of designs, schedules, drawings, and budgets.
  • Lead and coordinate long term mine engineering activities including planning, design, reserve model update, pit optimization and scenario analysis.
  • Coordinate inputs from Exploration, Geology, Mine Operations and Mill Operations to produce effective plans and designs.
  • Review from time to time and interpret long term mine plan and mine design to ensure alignment with operational objectives.
  • Oversee data and statistical inputs from operational results, etc. to adjust plan accordingly.
  • Control and monitor the work of mining activities by checking the state of progress on the field, compliance of the plans and specifications issued and analyzing the results of completed work.
  • Perform technical and economic analysis of mine plans and designs.
  • Assists the Mine Technical Superintendent in the development of the business cases and Life of Mine Scenarios.
  • Evaluate trade-offs and recommend solutions.
  • Prepares reports and written materials related to technical recommendation and improvements to the mine plan and mine design.
  • Own, update and manage the reserve model
  • Propose new methods to meet challenges of mine engineering.
  • Keep abreast of trends in mine engineering and impart to Mount Milligan.
  • Provide new approaches, methods, or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.
  • Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve mining processes, technologies and methodologies used for the mine.
  • Interact with external consultants, including Engineer of record, mining consultants and regulatory authorities and ensure mine plans are compliant with the legal requirements
  • Possess a valid Canadian Driver's License

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Degree in Mining Engineering coupled with long term planning experience.
  • Registration (or eligibility to register) as an Engineer in British Columbia.
  • A minimum of 10 years of open pit mine planning experience.
  • Previous experience in Long range open pit mine planning and optimization.

  • Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.

  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14x14 work schedule, 12 hours per day
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region
