Summary

 

The Health and Safety Manager plays a crucial role in fostering a proactive safety culture at the Mount Milligan Mine site. Reporting to the General Manager, the incumbent will lead the development and implementation of robust health and safety strategies, policies, and practices. With a focus on continuous improvement, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing, monitoring, and providing leadership and guidance to the management team, safety personnel, and employees regarding all health and safety matters in the workplace. This role entails ensuring timely reporting and fostering open communication with the management team.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the development and implementation of the site's health and safety culture, strategy, and policies in alignment with Centerra's standards.
  • Direct the Health, Safety, and Security Team, Training Department, Medical Clinic, and Mine Rescue Team to ensure cohesive safety efforts across the site.
  • Monitor financial allocations for health and safety initiatives, ensuring prudent budget management.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews. Oversee integration of safety processes and tools into to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in all work areas.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices to continuously improve the safety programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety practices into daily operations and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Provide interpretation and guidance to the site to ensure accurate information on health and safety regulations and proposed regulations affecting the industry and the business.
  • Support all operating departments in maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations through facility monitoring. Communicate deficiencies to the Site leadership and collaborate with responsible personnel to address them promptly.
  • Propose and guide the implementation of the most economically feasible solutions to the health and safety issues facing the operation.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, mine inspectors, and ensure compliance with all health and safety standards.

 

Education & Experience

 

  • A relevant university degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in health and safety management, preferably within the regional and global mining industry.
  • Familiarity with Isometrix and SAP software is considered advantageous, although not mandatory.
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with green and brownfield mining projects, including understanding of related construction risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and exert influence using strong leadership skills.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing comprehensive health and safety management strategies to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
  • Previous success in cultivating positive relationships with governmental and non-governmental organizations, demonstrating diplomacy and effective advocacy.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage professionals from diverse backgrounds and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational acumen with a demonstrated ability in team building and structuring.
  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License

 

Working Conditions

 

  • The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 4x3 rotation, 10-hours shifts. Consideration may be given to a 7x7 rotations, 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
