Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent, Geology, the Senior Mine Geologist will be responsible for production geology support and service

Responsibilities 

  • Foster a culture of safe work practices
  • Analyze and perform reconciliation between short and long-term models. Provide insight on model performance and recommendations for model improvements.
  • Offer oversight and guidance for continuous improvement to ore control procedures and processes.
  • Ensure high data quality by managing and monitoring databases, implementing data checks and validation, and communicating with Centerra Gold’s database management and IT team.
  • Train, mentor and provide technical support to the geology staff in mapping, grade control, geological modeling, resource modeling, and reconciliation practices/performance.
  • Design, execute and assist ongoing projects within the Geology department such as, Geometallurgical Drill Programs, Pit Wall Structural Mapping, Alteration Bench/Blasthole Chip Mapping, Resource Drilling, and Horizontal Drain Hole Design.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Mine Operations, Engineering and Exploration teams for Ore Delineation and Waste Material Management, Short- and Long-Term Planning, Short-Term Resource Modeling, Pit Wall Geotechnical Performance, and Geometallurgical Performance Tracking.

Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
  • Registered or eligible to register as a P.Geo with EGBC.
  • Progressive experience as a production or ore control geologist, preferably open pit (15+ years preferred).
  • Mining software experience (HxGN MinePlan preferred).
  • Experience in resource modelling using kriging, geostatistical analysis and methodologies.
  • Solid knowledge of Alkalic Porphyry deposits.
  • Team-oriented and a self-starter.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to integrate multiple software packages.
  • Exposure to project coordination and ability to make sound project decisions.
  • Effective leadership to build a strong employee culture.
  • Strong presentation and verbal skills.
  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations in both written and verbal forms across all levels of the organization in a clear manner.
  • Proven attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • An unwavering commitment to workplace safety.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence

 

Working Conditions

  • This position is based at the mine site where camp accommodations will be provided. The work rotation is fourteen (14) days on and fourteen (14) days off, working twelve (12) hour shifts.
  • The role is located at the Mount Milligan Mine, which is approximately 155 kilometers northwest of Prince George, British Columbia.
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Fort St. James and Mackenzie. Employees accessing the site from outside the region are eligible to receive a tax-free travel allowance commensurate with the distance they are required to travel.
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
  • Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
